„Constitutional Days“ Conference

"20 Years of the Constitution of the Slovak Republic – 1st Constitutional Days“

Košice, October 3-4, 2012

On October 3rd and 4th, the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic and the Faculty of Law of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice held the international conference of a more than one-decade lasting tradition. The conference was held in the premises of the Old Town Hall in Košice and the Faculty of Law of the Paul Jozef Šafárik University. Since the conference was organized on the anniversary of the Slovak Constitution, it was fittingly titled "20 Years of The Constitution of the Slovak Republic - I. Constitutional Days".

The conference was held in the presence of many prominent representatives of the Slovak Republic and the V4 judiciary. Among others, President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gašparovič, the Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Pavol Paška, the President of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic Pavel Rychetský, the President of the Constitutional Tribunal of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Rzepliński, the President of the Constitutional Court of Hungary Péter Paczolay. Many prominent foreign representatives of constitutional law attended the conference from academia and legal practice, which allowed comparing the domestic "constitutional experience" with similar information and knowledge from neighbouring countries.

The conference was divided into three sessions, which covered three thematic areas:

  1. The Constitution of the Slovak Republic, its amendments and legislative perspectives;
  2. The Constitution in constitutional and political practice;
  3. The Constitution and constitutional actors.
