Between 1978 and 1985 he worked as a judge at the civil law section of the District Court in Bratislava 3. Later on he became the President of the Senate of Appeal at the civil law section (first at the City Court in Bratislava, afterwards at the Regional Court, Bratislava). He was Vice – president of the City Court in Bratislava for the civil law section (1987-1992). From January 1st, 1999 until December 31, 1999 he was temporarily appointed to hold the office of a judge of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic. From November 9, 1993 to October 31, 1999 he was a member of the European Commission on Human Rights (Strasbourg).

As an expert of the Council of Europe he participated in the evaluation of the conformity of the legal system of Armenia (1997) and Ukraine (1996) with the European Convention on Human Rights. In 1992 he took part in a half-year sabbatical at French State School for Judges (Ecole national de la Magistrature). He is the author of several articles in both the domestic and foreign professional press. He has taken part in many international and domestic seminars on the problems of the European Convention on Human Rights.

He was appointed a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic on January 22, 2000.

n May 2004 he became the judge representing the Slovak Republic at the Court of First Instance in Luxembourg.
