He Graduated at the Law Faculty of P. J. Šafárik University in Košice in 1982. Between 1986 – 1990 he was an doctoral student at the Institute of State and Law of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava; in 1999 he gained the rank of Associate Professor at the Law Faculty of P. J. Šafárik University in Košice.
After finishing his studies in 1994 he worked as a lecturer at the Department of State and Administrative Law at the Law Faculty of P. J. Šafárik University in Košice. Between 1993 - 1998 he worked as the Deputy Director of the Legislative Department and in 1994 as the Director of the local office of the Chancellery of the President of SR. Then he worked again as a university lecturer at the Department of Politics at the Faculty of Arts of Prešov University in Prešov until 2002, and from 2004 at the department of constitutional and administrative law at the Faculty of Arts of Prešov University.
In 2003 - 2004 he worked as a legal advisor at the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic.
In 1998 he was elected a Member of the Parliament of SR and while exercising his mandate until 2002 he became the Chairman of the Constitutional Legal Committee.
As a judge of the Constitutional Court, he participated in many of the prominent and publicly-held decisions of the Constitutional Court. For two of them he was awarded the Judicature of the Year award in 2015 and 2016 (these are decisions ref. I. ÚS 397/2014 and ref.. II. ÚS 184/2015). Ladislav Orosz was Judge-Rapporteur in case ref. PL. ÚS 7/2017, in which the Constitutional Court decided on the so-called "Mečiar amnesties". His work was also awarded abroad, when in February 2019 he was awarded the Czech Republic's "Lawyer of the Year" award in the category "Civil and Human Rights and Constitutional Law" as the first foreign expert ever.
He was appointed a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic on 16 February 2007.
