He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Comenius University in Bratislava in 1975. From 1975 to 1977 he worked at the District Prosecutor's Office in Prievidza as a law clerk and from June 1977 to June 1987 as a prosecutor. From 1987 to 1991 he was a prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Banská Bystrica. From July 1991 to June 1994 he was Deputy Head of the District Office in Prievidza. From 1992 to 1993 he completed postgraduate studies with a focus on "Financing of Regions and Municipalities" at the Faculty of Economics of the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. Until December 1994 he was a judge of the District Court of Prievidza and from December 1994 to February 1997 he was the State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic.
In March 2011 he defended his dissertation at the Faculty of Law of the Pan-European University in Bratislava on the topic "History of constitutional justice in Slovakia and lessons for the future."
He has completed several study stays abroad. In 1995 - Netherlands - Ministry of Justice and the Association of Judges of the Netherlands - topic "Building an independent judiciary". In 1996 - Germany - Judicial Academy - topic "Transformation processes in the judiciary". In 1997 - Germany - Ministry of Justice, Association of Industry, Ministry of Economic Affairs - topic "Transformation of civil and commercial law". He participated in 14 scientific conferences at home and abroad, at which he presented papers that were published in proceedings. He published articles and reviews in the Judicial Review and professional state in Notitiae novae facultatis iuridicae UMB, vol. XIV and XV. He is the co-author of the work "Constitutional Judiciary of the Slovak Republic" approved as a textbook of the Faculty of Law of the University of Matej Bel, Banská Bystrica 2010.
He was appointed a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic on 1 March 1997.
He was reappointed as a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic on 29 February 2004.
