He graduated at the Law Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava in 1982. After finishing his two years as candidate judge he became a judge of the District Court in Bratislava, and in 1989 a judge of the Municipal Court in Bratislava. From 1990 to 2002 he was a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic. During this whole period he was a member of the Constitutional Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic and he held two times the position of Chairman and Vice-Chairman of this Committee. From 2002 to 2003 he worked at the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic, and in 2002 he became a member of the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic. From 2003 to 2004 he worked as a judge at the Regional Court in Bratislava. From 2004 he worked as a judge of the civil division of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic.

He was appointed a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic on 16 February 2007.
