In 1962 he graduated at the Law Faculty of the Comenius University in Bratislava. He was conferred the title doctor iuris in 1968. After finishing his university study he worked as a candidate judge at the District Court in Prešov. After finishing military service, he worked at the District Court in Banská Bystrica and after juridical exams he became a judge at the Regional Court in Banská Bystrica. For his alleged political irresponsibility he was forced to leave the judiciary. Later he worked as an advocate in Zvolen from where he also had to leave for the political reasons, and in 1975 he was persecuted. During the years 1981 – 1990 he worked as a company lawyer. In 1990 he was rehabilitated and became a judge of the Regional Court in Banská Bystrica. Later he held the position of Deputy Minister of Justice of the Slovak Republic. In autumn 1992 he was elected a judge of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic where he worked till February 2007 at the section of the administrative law. During the year 1994 he held the office of the State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic. At the end of the year 1994 he resumed his position of a judge at the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic, where he was a presiding judge and for 7 years also chairperson of this division.

He is a co-author of the publication „Rozhodnutia súdov v exekučnom konaní" (Decisions of the courts in distraint proceedings). For 5 years he was Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal „Justičná revue" (Justice revue), where he published several papers on justice, particularly on administrative law and administrative judiciary.

He was appointed a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic on 16 February 2007.
