Formerly professor in the Faculty of Law at P. J. Šafárik University, where he served as the Head of the Department of Civil Law and International Law (1983 - 1993), Chairman of the Academic Assembly (1990 - 1993), Deputy Chairman of the Council of Slovak Universities (1991 - 1993), and member of the scientific councils of Faculty of Law at P. J. Šafárik University.

Basic scientific and pedagogic orientation is civil procedure law. Author of papers, articles, and academic textbooks in civil procedure which have been published both domestically and internationally, and joint-author of one monograph.

Language skills: French, Russian

He was appointed a Constitutional Court judge on January 21, 1993, and Vice-President of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic on March 8, 1993.

He became again a judge of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic on January 22, 2000.
